NJ Age Discrimination Attorney, Qualified and Experienced IT Specialists Fired Due to Age

The most experienced and qualified IT specialists should not have to fear being fired due to their age.  IT workers are all too frequently forced out of jobs and replaced by younger, though not more qualified, workers.

The younger IT replacement workers frequently have a starting salary that exceeds that of the older long-term workers whom they replaced.

If you are an IT worker who is being forced out of your job, you should contact this office today for a free consultation. I accept clients from all over NJ.

I have represented IT workers and older employees who were pushed out of jobs because of their age and was successful in recovering financial compensation for their emotional pain and suffering and moneys for lost wages, both for past lost wages and projected future lost wages. If you think you are being pushed out of your job because of your age, you should contact this office immediately for a free consultation.

Age Bias Starts as Early as 35 Years of Age

What is shocking is that this age bias starts as early as 35 years of age or younger in this profession. In most professions, workers believe that they will not have to be concerned about age discrimination until they are in their 40's or 50's. However, these statistics do not hold true for those working in Internet Technology.

A recent 2022 compilation of surveys found that among professional IT developers, over 62 percent of the workforce was comprised of workers who are 18 to 34 years of age. Workers in the decade spanning 25 to 34 years of age comprise almost 40% of the workforce.

What is startling to many (except those in the industry itself), is that the radical drop in percentage of IT workers decreases rapidly to under 20 % for those workers ages 35 to 40. For workers aged 55 to 64, the decrease accelerates rapidly, with workers aged 55 to 64 comprising less than 3 percent. An even more abysmal statistic is that it drops to less than 1% for workers age 65 and older.

An old adage is that if you repeat a falsehood over and over, many will believe it to be true.

Not only tech industries, but other companies who hire IT specialists to oversee the IT management for their business, have deeply ingrained institutional ageism prevalent throughout the company. There is a perception among those in upper management, that younger IT workers who have less qualifications and experience than older workers, will nevertheless keep the most abreast of the ongoing rapid changes in Internet Technology, though there is no basis in fact for this belief.

This biased favoring of younger workers at all costs, prevails even against more qualified and experienced top IT Network Specialists who are older. Actually, the opposite of this myth is true. This bias against older IT workers is circulated frequently and may be a myth that is hard to overcome.
